SAFETY
If Deployment Occurs
In this manual: SAFETY
~2min read
Front airbags are designed to deflate immediately after deployment.
NOTE:
Front and/or side airbags do not deploy in every collision. This does not mean there is a malfunction in the airbag system.
If a collision occurs in which the airbags deploy, any or all of the following may occur:
- The airbag material may sometimes cause abrasions and/or redness of the occupants' skin when the airbags deploy. The abrasions are similar to friction burns from sliding on a carpet or gym floor. They are not caused by chemicals. They are not permanent and usually heal quickly. However, if you do not improve significantly within a few days, or if you develop blisters, see a doctor immediately.
- When the airbags deflate, you may see smoke-like particles. The particles are a normal by-product of the process that generates the non-toxic gas used to inflate the airbags. These airborne particles may irritate the skin, eyes, nose, or throat. If you have skin or eye irritation, flush the area with cool water. If nose or throat irritation occurs, get fresh air. If the irritation continues, consult a doctor. If these particles settle on your clothing, follow the garment manufacturer's cleaning instructions.
Do not drive the vehicle after the airbags have deployed. If you are involved in another collision, the airbags will not be in place to protect you.
NOTE:
- The airbag covers may be inconspicuous in the interior trim, but they will open during airbag deployment.
- After any collision, the vehicle must be taken to an authorized dealer immediately.
