ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTICS — OBD II
Your vehicle is equipped with an advanced On-Board Diagnostic system called OBD II. This system monitors the operation of the emission control, engine, and transmission control systems. When these systems operate properly, your vehicle will provide excellent performance and fuel economy, and engine emissions within current government regulations.
If any of these systems require service, the OBD II system will illuminate the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL). It will also store diagnostic trouble codes and other information to help the service technician. Although your vehicle is normally drivable and does not require towing, refer to an authorized dealer for service as soon as possible.
- Continued driving with the MIL illuminated may cause further damage to the emission control system. It may also affect fuel economy and drivability. The vehicle should be serviced before any emissions tests are performed.
- If the MIL flashes while the engine is running, severe damage to the catalytic converter and loss of power will soon occur. Immediate service is required.
ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTICS (OBD II) CYBERSECURITY
Your vehicle is equipped with OBD II and a connection port to access information related to the performance of your emission control monitors. Authorized service technicians may need to access this information to assist with the diagnosis and service of your vehicle and emission control system.
- ONLY an authorized service technician should connect equipment to the OBD II connection port to read the VIN, diagnose, or service your vehicle.
- If a device is connected to the OBD II connection port, such as a driving behavior monitoring device, it may:
- Cause vehicle systems, including safety-related systems, to malfunction, or loss of control of the vehicle may occur, which may result in an accident causing serious injury or death.
- Access or allow others to access information stored in your vehicle's systems, including personal information.
