  • Keep clear of the radiator cooling fan whenever the hood is open. The fan may start at any time when the ignition key is in the ON position. You may be injured by the moving fan blades.
  • Remove any metal jewelry, such as rings, watch straps, and bracelets, that could make unintentional electrical contact. You may be seriously injured.
  • Vehicles equipped with the Stop/Start system have two batteries. Both the main and auxiliary batteries must be disconnected to completely de-energize the 12-volt electrical system.
  • Do not disconnect both batteries. Doing so may result in serious injury or death. Refer to an authorized dealer for the correct disconnection procedure.

If you store the vehicle for more than 3 weeks, we recommend that you take the following steps to minimize battery drain:

  • Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  • If your vehicle is equipped with the Stop/Start system, disconnect both the main and auxiliary negative battery cables.
  • Each time you store your vehicle or leave it out of service (for example, on vacation) for two weeks or longer, run the air conditioning system at idle for about five minutes with fresh air and the blower fan on high. This ensures adequate lubrication of the system to minimize the possibility of compressor damage when the system is started again.
  • If assistance is required to disconnect the battery, contact an authorized dealer.

Battery Cable Disconnection

  1. Auxiliary Negative Battery Cable
  2. Main Negative Battery Cable
  3. Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS)
  4. Main Negative Battery Terminal
  • You must isolate the auxiliary battery connection point, as well as the main battery terminal from the post, as shown in the illustration, to fully de-energize both batteries for storage. If assistance is required to disconnect the battery, contact an authorized dealer.
  • Do not disconnect the Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), or your Stop/Start system may not operate for up to 24 hours because the IBS is set to learning mode.
