Ignition Coil Description and Operation

~1min read

Description

The ignition coil is an induction coil in the ignition system of the engine that converts the low voltage of the battery into the high voltage required to create an electrical spark at the spark plugs to ignite the fuel. Some coils have an internal resistor, while others rely on a resistor wire or external resistor to limit the current flowing through the coil from the 12 V battery power supply.
