Kia Sorento: Cylinder Head Assembly

Install the valves.
1. Using SST (09222-4A000), install a new oil seal.
  NOTEDo not reuse old valve stem oil seals. Incorrect installation of the seal may cause oil leakage through the valve guides.
2. Install the valve, valve spring and spring seat.
  NOTEInstall the valve springs so that the painted side faces the valve spring retainer, then install the retainer.
3. Using SST (09222-3K000, 09222-3K100), compress the spring and install the valve keepers. After installing the valves, release the valve spring compressor.
4. Lightly tap the end of each valve stem two or three times with a wooden hammer handle to ensure proper seating of the valve and valve keeper.

Install the MLA after applying engine oil. Make sure the MLA rotates smoothly by hand.

NOTEThe MLAs can be reinstalled in their original positions. However, the valve clearances must be rechecked and adjusted as necessary before the cylinder head is installed on the cylinder block. Refer to General Information in the EM section for the valve clearance inspection and adjustment procedure.
