Emergency Towing. There are three common methods of towing a vehicle:
  • Load the vehicle onto the flatbed truck with the operator driving. This is the best way to transport the vehicle.
  • The tow truck uses two swivel arms that pass under the drive axle wheels and lift them off the ground. The other two wheels remain on the ground.
  • The tow truck uses metal cables with hooks on the ends. These hooks wrap around parts of the frame or suspension, and the cables lift the front or rear of the vehicle off the ground. Attempting to tow the vehicle this way may seriously damage the suspension and body.
If the vehicle cannot be transported on a flatbed truck, it should be towed with the drive wheels off the ground. In this case, perform the following procedure: Transaxle Assembly
  • Start the engine.
  • Shift from [D] to [N].
  • Turn the engine off.
  • Improper towing preparation may cause damage to the transaxle assembly. Follow the procedure described above exactly. If you cannot move the transaxle or start the engine, the vehicle must be transported on a flatbed truck.
  • It is recommended to tow the vehicle no more than 30 km (19 miles) at speeds below 50 km/h.
  • Attempting to lift or tow the vehicle by the bumpers may cause serious damage. Bumpers are not designed to support the weight of the vehicle.
