WARNING - Loose Objects

Loose objects in the driver's footwell area may interfere with pedal operation, possibly causing an accident. Do not place anything under the front seats.

✽ NOTICE

If you have been in an accident, the front seat may be damaged. In this case, we recommend that the seat system be inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.

WARNING: Driver's responsibility for front passenger

Riding in a vehicle with the front seatback reclined may result in serious or fatal injury in an accident. If the front seatback is reclined during a collision, the passenger's hips may slide under the lap belt, applying great force to the unprotected abdomen. Serious or fatal internal injuries may result. The driver must instruct the front passenger to keep the seatback upright whenever the vehicle is in motion.

WARNING

Do not use a seat cushion that reduces friction between the seat and the passenger. Passengers' hips may slide under the lap belt during a collision or sudden stop. Serious or fatal internal injuries are possible because the seat belt cannot work normally.

CAUTION - Driver's Seat

  • Never attempt to adjust the seat while the vehicle is moving. This may result in loss of control and a fatal accident, serious injury, or property damage.
  • Do not allow anything to interfere with the normal position of the seatback. Storing items against the seatback or otherwise interfering with proper locking of the seatback may result in serious or fatal injury in a sudden stop or collision.
  • Always drive and ride with your seatback upright and the lap portion of the seat belt snug and low across your hips. This is the best position to protect you in case of an accident.
  • To avoid unnecessary and possibly severe airbag injuries, always sit as far back from the steering wheel as possible while maintaining comfortable control of the vehicle. It is recommended that your chest be at least 250 mm (10 in.) from the steering wheel.

WARNING - Rear Seatbacks

  • The rear seatback must be securely locked. If not, passengers and objects may be thrown forward, resulting in serious injury or death in a sudden stop or collision.
  • Luggage and other cargo must lie flat in the cargo area. If items are large, heavy, or must be stacked, they must be secured. Under no circumstances should cargo be loaded higher than the seatbacks. Failure to observe these warnings may result in serious injury or death in the event of sudden braking, a collision, or a rollover.
  • No passenger should ride in the cargo area or sit or lie on folded seatbacks while the vehicle is moving. All passengers must sit properly in their seats and be properly restrained while riding.
  • When returning the seatback to the upright position, make sure it is securely locked by pushing it forward and backward.
  • To avoid the risk of burns, do not remove the carpet in the cargo area. The emission control device under this floor generates high temperatures.

WARNING

After adjusting the seat, always make sure it is securely locked in position by attempting to move the seat forward or backward without using the seat lock release lever. Sudden or unexpected movement of the driver's seat may cause you to lose control of the vehicle and result in an accident.

WARNING

  • Take extreme care that hands or other objects do not become caught in the seat mechanisms while the seat is moving.
  • Do not place the cigarette lighter on the floor or seat. When operating the seat, gas may escape from the lighter and cause a fire.
  • Take extreme care when reaching for small objects that have fallen under the seats or between the seat and the center console. Your hands may be cut or injured by sharp edges of the seat mechanism.

Seat Leather Characteristics

  • Leather is made from the outer hide of animals that has been processed for use. Because it is a natural material, each part varies in thickness or density. Wrinkles may appear as a natural result of stretching and compression depending on temperature and humidity.
  • The seat is made of elastic fabric for increased comfort.
  • The body-contact parts are contoured, and the side support areas are high to provide driving comfort and stability.
  • Wrinkles may appear naturally due to use. This is not a product defect.

CAUTION

  • Wrinkles or scratches that appear naturally from use are not covered under warranty.
  • Belts with metal buckles, zippers, or keys inside the rear pocket may damage the seat fabric.
  • Be careful not to get the seat wet. This may change the characteristics of the natural leather.
  • Jeans or clothing with dye may stain the seat upholstery fabric.
