Recommended Lubricants and Capacities
To help maintain the performance and durability of the engine and powertrain, use only good-quality lubricants. Using the correct lubricants will help the engine run smoothly and promote good fuel economy.
The following lubricants and fluids are recommended for your vehicle.

*1 See the recommended SAE viscosity grades on the following page.
*2 Energy-conserving engine oils are now available. In addition to the usual benefits, they help improve fuel economy by reducing the energy required to overcome engine friction. These improvements are often difficult to notice in daily driving, but over time they can result in significant cost and energy savings.
*3 If API Service SM engine oil is not available in your country, you may use API Service SL engine oil.
Recommended SAE Viscosity Number
CAUTIONAlways keep the area around the oil filler cap, drain plug, or dipstick clean before checking or draining any lubricant. This is especially important in dusty or sandy areas and after driving on unpaved roads. Cleaning around the cap and dipstick prevents dirt and grime from entering the engine and other mechanisms, where they could cause damage.
Engine oil viscosity (thickness) affects fuel economy and cold-weather operation (starting and oil flow).
Lower viscosity oils provide better fuel economy and better cold-weather performance. However, a higher viscosity oil provides better lubrication in hot weather.
Using oils with viscosities other than those recommended may damage the engine.
When choosing an oil, always consider the operating temperature range before changing oil. You can use the following table to help select the recommended oil viscosity.

*1. For better fuel economy, SAE 5W-20 engine oil (API Service SM / ILSAC GF-4) is recommended. If this engine oil is not available, choose an appropriate engine oil by referring to the engine oil viscosity chart.
