Driving the Vehicle
- Do not breathe exhaust gases.
Exhaust gases contain carbon monoxide, an odorless and colorless gas that can cause loss of consciousness and death by asphyxiation.
- Make sure there are no leaks in the exhaust system.
Have the exhaust system checked whenever the vehicle is raised for an oil change or any other reason. If you notice a change in the sound of the exhaust, or if you drive over an object that strikes the underside of the vehicle, have the exhaust system checked as soon as possible at an authorized Kia dealer.
- Do not let the engine run in an enclosed area.
Letting the engine run in a garage, even with the garage door open, is very dangerous. Never run the engine in a garage any longer than needed to start the vehicle and drive it out of the garage.
- Avoid idling the engine for long periods when people are in the vehicle.
If you must idle the engine for a long time with people in the vehicle, be sure to park in an open area, set the air intake to "Fresh", and set the fan to one of the higher speeds to ensure fresh air is drawn into the vehicle.
If you must drive with the tailgate open because you are carrying large objects:
- Open all windows.
- Open the side vents.
- Set the air intake to "Fresh", the airflow control to floor or face, and the fan to one of the highest speeds.
To ensure proper ventilation system operation, make sure the air intakes at the base of the windshield are free of snow, ice, leaves and other debris.
