WARNING

Do not spray water inside the cabin:

Spraying water on electrical components such as the audio unit and switches is dangerous, as it may cause a malfunction or fire.

Instrument Panel Protection

Prevent caustic solutions such as perfumes and cosmetic oils from contacting the instrument panel. They will damage it and cause the instrument panel to discolor. If any of these solutions contacts the instrument panel, wipe it off immediately.

WARNING

Do not use glazing compounds.

Glazing compounds contain ingredients that may cause discoloration, wrinkling, cracking and peeling.

Top of Instrument Panel (Soft Pad)

  • A very soft material is used for the surface of the soft pad. When cleaning, it is recommended to use a clean towel dampened with mild detergent to remove dirt.
  • If the surface of the soft pad is rubbed too hard, it may be damaged and show white scratch marks.

Interior Trim Cleaning

Vinyl

Remove dust and dirt with a long-bristle brush or a vacuum cleaner.

Clean vinyl surfaces with a leather or vinyl cleaner.

Synthetic Leather

Remove dust and dirt from synthetic leather with a soft brush or a vacuum cleaner.

Clean synthetic leather with a synthetic leather cleaner.

Leather

First remove dust and sand with a vacuum cleaner or other means, then wipe off the dust using a soft cloth dampened with leather cleaner or a soft cloth dampened with mild soap.

Wipe off any remaining cleaner or soap using a cloth dampened with clean water, then wring it out thoroughly.

Remove moisture with a soft, dry cloth, then let the leather dry further in a well-ventilated area, out of direct sunlight. If the leather has been wet from rain, blot the water as soon as possible and let it dry.

NOTE

  • Because genuine leather is a natural material, its surface is not uniform. It may have scars, scratches and wrinkles.
  • It is recommended to care for it periodically, about twice a year, to keep its quality as long as possible.
  • Sand and dust on the seat surface can damage the finish of genuine leather surfaces and cause accelerated wear.
  • Greasy dirt on genuine leather may cause runs and stains.
  • Rubbing vigorously with a brush or a hard cloth may also damage it.
  • Do not rub leather with alcohol, bleach, or organic solvents such as thinners, benzene or gasoline. Otherwise, discoloration or stains may result.
  • If the seats get wet, blot the water immediately with a dry cloth. Remaining moisture on the surface may cause damage such as hardening or shrinking.
  • Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause deterioration and shrinkage. When parking the vehicle in direct sunlight for long periods, shade the interior using sunshades.
  • Do not leave vinyl objects on the seats for long periods as they may affect the suppleness and colour of the leather. If the cabin temperature becomes very hot, the vinyl may deteriorate and stick to the genuine leather.

Fabric

Remove dust and dirt with a long-bristle brush or a vacuum cleaner.

Clean with a mild solution of upholstery or carpet soap. Remove fresh stains with a fabric stain remover.

Maintain the fabric so that it stays clean. Otherwise, its colours may be affected, it will soil easily and its flame-retardant properties may be reduced.

WARNING

Use only the recommended cleaners and methods. Otherwise, the appearance and flame resistance of the product may be adversely affected.

Piano black panel

The following parts are fitted with panels treated with a scratch-resistant protective coating.

Shift lever panel/gear shift lever. When the panel needs cleaning, use a soft cloth to remove dirt from the surface.

NOTE

Scratches or nicks on the panels caused by using a hard brush or cloth may not be repairable.

Decorative instrument panel

The decorative instrument panel is treated with a special scratch-resistant coating.

To clean the instrument panel, use a soft cloth to remove dust.

NOTE

Scratches or other marks on the decorative instrument panel caused by using hard brushes or abrasive cloths may not be removable.

Cleaning the seat belts

Clean the belt with a suitable upholstery or carpet soap solution. Follow the instructions. Do not bleach or dye the belts as this could reduce their strength.

After cleaning the seat belts, dry the webbing thoroughly and make sure no moisture remains before retracting them.

WARNING

Have damaged seat belts replaced by an authorised Mazda dealer immediately:

Using damaged seat belts is dangerous. In a collision, damaged seat belts will not provide adequate protection.

Cleaning the interior windows

If the interior surfaces of the vehicle windows are dirty or covered with a film of grease, oil or wax, wash them with a glass cleaner. Follow the instructions supplied with the product.

WARNING

  • Do not scrape or scratch the inside of the window glass. This could damage the heating elements and antenna lines.
  • When cleaning the inside of the window glass, use a soft cloth dampened with lukewarm water to gently wipe the heating elements and antenna lines.
Using glass cleaning products may damage the defogger elements and antenna lines.

Cleaning the floor mats

Rubber floor mats can be cleaned using mild soap and water only.

WARNING

Do not use rubber cleaners such as a tyre cleaner or tyre dressing to clean rubber floor mats:

Floor mats will become slippery if cleaned with rubber cleaning products.

This may cause an accident when depressing the accelerator, brake or clutch pedal (manual transmission), or when getting in or out of the vehicle.

After removing the floor mats for cleaning, always reinstall them securely. Refer to Floor Mats on page 3-51.
