WARNING

Make sure the adjustable seat components are securely locked in place:

Adjustable seats and seatbacks that are not securely locked are dangerous. In a sudden stop or collision, the seat or seatback may move, causing serious injury. Make sure the adjustable seat components are securely locked by pushing the seat forward and backward and pushing on the seat.

Do not drive with the seatback unlocked:

The entire seatback is important for safety inside the vehicle. Leaving the seatback unlocked is dangerous because passengers may be thrown out or not restrained, and objects may strike occupants during hard braking or a collision, causing serious injury. After adjusting the seatback, even if no other passengers are in the vehicle, push the seatback forward and backward to make sure it is securely locked in place.

Adjust the driver's seat only when the vehicle is stopped:

Adjusting the driver's seat while the vehicle is moving is dangerous. The driver may lose control of the vehicle and cause an accident.

Do not modify or replace the front seats:

Modifying or removing the front seats, such as replacing the upholstery or loosening the bolts, is dangerous. The front seats contain airbag components that are essential to the Supplemental Restraint System. Modification can damage the Supplemental Restraint System, which may result in serious injury. Contact an authorized Mazda dealer if it is necessary to remove or reinstall a front seat.

Do not drive with damaged front seats:

Driving with damaged front seats is dangerous. A collision, even one not severe enough to deploy the airbags, can damage front seats that contain essential airbag components. If another collision occurs, an airbag may not deploy, which could result in serious injury. Always have the front seats, seat belt pretensioners and airbags inspected by an authorized Mazda dealer after any collision.

Do not drive with a front seat reclined:

Sitting in a reclined position in a moving vehicle is dangerous because it reduces the protection provided by the seat belts. In a sudden stop or collision, you may slide under the lap belt and suffer serious internal injuries. For maximum protection, sit as far back as possible and upright.

Do not place objects such as a cushion between the seatback and your back:

Placing an object such as a cushion between the seatback and your back is dangerous because you will not be able to maintain a safe driving posture, and the seat belt will not function fully in a collision. A serious accident or serious or fatal injury could result.

Do not place objects under the seat:

The object could become jammed and prevent the seat from being properly secured, which could result in an accident.

Do not stack luggage higher than the seatbacks:

Luggage stacked higher than the seatbacks is dangerous.

In a sudden stop or collision, objects can be thrown forward and may strike and injure passengers.

Make sure all luggage and cargo is secured before driving:

Failing to secure luggage or cargo before driving is dangerous because it may shift or be thrown forward in a sudden stop or collision, causing serious injury.

Never allow a passenger to sit on a folded-down seatback while driving:

Driving with a passenger on a folded-down seatback is dangerous. In particular, allowing a child to sit on a folded-down seatback while the vehicle is moving is extremely dangerous. In a sudden stop or collision, even a minor one, a child who is not seated and properly restrained in a seat or child restraint system may be thrown forward, backward or even out of the vehicle, causing serious injury or death. A child in the luggage compartment may be thrown onto other occupants and cause serious injury.

Never give the vehicle keys to children and do not allow children to play in the vehicle:

Playing with the folding rear seats is dangerous. When the seatbacks are folded down, a child in the luggage compartment could not get out the way they got in. If young children are in the vehicle, keep the rear seatbacks locked.

Always make sure the vehicle is locked when you leave it, and keep the vehicle keys out of children's reach:

It is dangerous to leave the vehicle unlocked, or the keys within children's reach.

Children who may enter the luggage compartment through an unlocked rear seatback or through an open luggage compartment may accidentally become trapped inside it. They could then die or suffer brain damage from heatstroke, especially in summer. Always lock the doors and the luggage compartment, and as an additional measure, keep the rear seatbacks locked, whether or not you have children at home.

WARNING

  • To avoid injury, keep your hands and fingers away from the moving parts of the seat or side trim when adjusting seat positions.
  • (Manual seat) When returning a reclined seatback to its upright position, make sure to support the seatback while operating the lever. If the seatback is not supported, it will suddenly move forward and may cause injury.
  • (Power seat) The seat cushion is adjusted by motors. Avoid operating them excessively, as this may damage the motors.
  • To avoid discharging the battery, do not use the power seat controls when the engine is off. The adjustment system consumes a large amount of electrical power.
  • Do not use the control to make more than one adjustment at a time.

NOTE

When a rear seat is returned to its original position, the seat belt must also be returned to its original position. Check that the seat belt can be pulled out and that it retracts.
