Switching off the engine

Important safety notes

WARNING

If the engine is not running, the steering and brakes are not power-assisted. You must then apply much greater effort to steer and brake the vehicle.

You could cause an accident and injure yourself or others.

Therefore, do not switch off the engine while driving.

Vehicles equipped with a manual transmission

  • Engage first gear or reverse R.
  • Turn the key back to position 0 in the ignition switch, then remove it.

The immobiliser is activated.

  • Apply the electric parking brake.

Vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission

  • Apply the electric parking brake.
  • Shift the transmission to P.
  • Turn the key back to position 0 in the ignition switch, then remove it.

The immobiliser is activated.

If you switch off the engine while the selector lever is in R or D, the automatic transmission automatically shifts to N.

If you then open the driver's or front passenger's door or remove the key, the automatic transmission automatically shifts to P.

If you have shifted the automatic transmission to N before switching off the engine, the automatic transmission remains in N even if you open the door.
