Snow chains

~1min read
If you fit snow chains to the rear wheels, they may rub against the body or chassis components. This may damage the vehicle or the tires. Vehicles with steel wheels: if you fit snow chains to steel wheels, first remove the wheel trims on the affected wheels. Otherwise, the wheel trims may be damaged.

For safety reasons, Mercedes-Benz recommends fitting only snow chains approved for Mercedes-Benz vehicles or snow chains of the same quality standard.

If you want to fit snow chains, observe the following notes:

  • Snow chains are not permitted on all wheel and tire combinations. For permitted wheel and tire combinations, see.
  • Snow chains must not be fitted to compact spare wheels (Minispare, for example).
  • Fit snow chains only in pairs and only on the front wheels. Follow the manufacturer's installation instructions.

When snow chains are fitted, you cannot use Active Parking Assist.

Do not drive faster than 50 km/h.

To start off with snow chains, you can deactivate ESP® . This allows the wheels to spin in a controlled manner to increase traction (grip effect).
