Stored data in the vehicle
The Mercedes E-Class (4th gen. W212, 2009–2016) is equipped with state-of-the-art electronics that store various data. This article provides an overview of the stored data and their benefit for maintenance and safety. Learn how this technology helps optimize vehicle functions. Intelligent data use underscores the innovative strength of the E-Class.
A large number of electronic components in your vehicle contain data storage units.
These data storage units temporarily or permanently store technical information about- Vehicle condition
- Events
- Faults
This technical information generally documents the condition of a component, a module, a system or the environment.
These are, for example:- Operating states of system components. These include, for example, fill levels.
- Status messages of the vehicle and its individual components. These include, for example, wheel rotation speed/vehicle speed, deceleration, lateral acceleration, accelerator pedal position.
- Malfunctions and defects in important system components. These include, for example, lights, brakes.
- Reactions and operating states of the vehicle in special driving situations. These include, for example, airbag deployment, activation of stability control systems.
- Environmental conditions. These include, for example, outside temperature.
- to support the detection and rectification of faults and defects
- to analyze vehicle functions, e.g. after an accident
- to optimize vehicle functions.
Movement profiles of driven routes cannot be created from this data.
If you use service activities, this technical information can be read out from the event and fault data memories.
Service activities include, for example:- Repair services
- Service processes
- Warranty claims
- Quality assurance
The data is read out by employees of the service network (including the manufacturer) using special diagnostic equipment. You will receive further information there if needed.
After a fault has been rectified, the information in the fault memory is deleted or continuously overwritten.
When using the vehicle, situations are conceivable in which these technical data, in conjunction with other information - possibly with the involvement of an expert - could become personally attributable.
Examples include:- Accident reports
- Vehicle damage
- Witness statements
Further additional functions agreed with the customer by contract also permit certain vehicle data to be transmitted from the vehicle. Additional functions include, for example, vehicle location in an emergency.

The Mercedes E-Class 4th generation (W212) also demonstrates its technical excellence in terms of data storage and analysis. Electronic components document the vehicle's condition and thus contribute to the early detection of faults and to the optimization of vehicle functions.
Owners of a Mercedes E-Class W212 can be confident that their data serves primarily technical purposes and is not used to create movement profiles. This underlines Mercedes-Benz's responsible handling of sensitive information.
The E-Class model years 2009–2016 thus combine state-of-the-art technology with a high level of data protection and give drivers the assurance that their vehicle stays up to date.
