Removing and installing window winder

Removing

• Slide spacer ring -2- in -direction of arrow a- and pull window winder off window lifter mechanism -arrow b-.

Installing

• Slide on spacer and press window winder onto window lifter mechanism.

The installation position of window winder -1- is upwards and vertical with window closed.

Deviation between window winders must be no more than 6°.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Torque wrench -V.A.G 1783- Removing window winder mechanism Note Removal and installation are described only for the left window winder mechanism. Removal and installation of the right window winder mechanism are similar.

• Removing window winder → Chapter.
• Remove rear door trim → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.70.
• Secure door window against sliding down with adhesive tape.
• Remove bolts -2- (Qty. 3).
• Remove window winder mechanism -1- from mounting brackets of cable drum -3-.

Installing window winder mechanism

• Fit window winder mechanism -1- onto mounting brackets of cable drum -3-. Move door window up and down slightly so that the splines between window winder mechanism and cable drum engage more easily.
• Tighten bolts -2-.
