Tire Damage Message
The warning lamp lights up red, a message appears on the control display, and an audible signal sounds: tire puncture or excessive pressure loss in one of the tires.
If DSC was switched off, it switches back on automatically.
1. Carefully reduce speed to at least 80 km/h, avoiding sudden steering or brake inputs. Thereafter do not exceed 80 km/h.
When towing a trailer, reduce speed to 60 km/h.
If tire pressure continues to drop, the display shows a message identifying the damaged wheel.
If the vehicle is not fitted with run-flat tires, as provided by the factory equipment, driving on a deflated tire may cause a serious accident.◄
2. At the first opportunity, check the air pressure in all four tires.
If all tires have normal pressure, a false warning may be caused by the Flat Tire Monitor not being initialized. Initialize the system.◄
3. The permissible distance with a completely deflated tire can be determined from the following:
► Low load (1-2 persons and empty trunk): approx. 250 km.
► Medium load (2 persons and full trunk, or 4 persons without luggage): approx. 150 km.
► Full load (4 or more persons and full trunk): approx. 50 km.
To avoid an accident, drive without sudden maneuvers and do not exceed 80 km/h. With deflated tires, the vehicle's dynamic characteristics change. It holds the road worse when braking, braking distance increases, and its self-steering changes.
A trailer, especially a heavy one, may begin to sway. Therefore, to avoid an accident, do not exceed 60 km/h.
Unusual vibrations and loud noise while driving may indicate that the damaged tire is about to fail completely. Such a tire may begin to disintegrate and cause an accident. Reduce speed and stop in a safe place. Do not drive further. Contact a BMW service center.◄
