New Wheels and Tires

Have new wheels and tires installed only by a BMW Service Center.

Improper handling may result in damage to the equipment or an accident. New wheels must be balanced.◄

Retreaded Tyres

BMW does not recommend the use of retreaded tires.

They reduce the level of safety.

The reason is the varying degree of wear of the carcass and its severe ageing, which adversely affects the strength of the tyre as a whole.◄

Correct Wheels and Tires

When replacing tires or switching between summer and winter tires, install only Runflat tires on the vehicle. For advice on this matter, contact a BMW service center.

BMW recommends using only wheels and tires approved by BMW for the respective vehicle model, because even tires of the nominal size may rub against the body due to manufacturing tolerances and cause a serious accident. BMW does not guarantee the safety of non-recommended wheels and tires, since it cannot assess their suitability.◄

When installing wheels and tires of a larger size, it may be necessary to modify the wheel arch liner. Otherwise, there is a risk to driving safety and of vehicle damage. Have this work performed only by a BMW service center.◄ For permissible combinations of wheels and tires, contact a BMW service center.

The wheel and tire combination affects various systems, such as ABS, DSC, xDrive, DPC, and RPA. Selecting an incorrect combination may adversely affect their operation.

To maintain normal handling characteristics, install tires of the same make and with the same tread pattern on all wheels. If damaged, restore the recommended wheel and tire combination as soon as possible.

Recommended Tire Brands

BMW recommends specific tire brands for each tire size. Recommended tires can be identified by the BMW mark on the sidewall.

When used correctly, these tires meet the highest quality and safety standards.

Characteristics of Winter Tires

For winter operating conditions, BMW recommends winter tires. So-called all-season tires marked M+S are better suited for winter conditions than summer tires, but they are generally still less effective than winter tires.

Speed Limit Compliance

To prevent tire damage and accidents, never exceed the maximum speed permitted for the respective winter tires.◄

If the maximum permitted vehicle speed exceeds the speed rating of the winter tires, a corresponding speed label must be within the driver's field of view.

This label can be obtained from the tire dealer or a BMW service center.

Storage

Store removed wheels and tires in a cool, dry and, if possible, dark place.

Protect tires from contact with fuel and lubricants.

Rotating wheels between axles

BMW does not recommend moving front wheels to the rear axle and vice versa, even with tires of the same size, because this may impair the vehicle's handling characteristics.

Such a change is not permitted at all with tires of different construction.◄
