Malfunctions

The system indicator lamp illuminates – the system is faulty or switched off. At low speeds, the steering wheel must be turned farther. At high speeds, the vehicle reacts more sharply to steering wheel input. Have the system checked at a BMW service center.

If the warning lamp comes on when the engine is started for the first time after a interruption in the power supply, the system must be initialized.

System Initialization

1. Start the engine.

2. With the vehicle stationary and the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position, turn the steering wheel fully to the left stop, then fully to the right stop, then return it to the straight-ahead position.

3. Switch off the engine.

After restarting the engine, the Active Steering system is again fully operational.
