Before Driving
Permissible tongue load on the trailer hitch
Permissible tongue load values for the trailer hitch.
Observe them. At the same time, the load must not be less than 25 kg.
The load on the trailer hitch increases the total weight of the vehicle. The maximum permissible payload is reduced by the weight of the trailer hitch and the load applied to it. Take this into account and do not exceed the maximum permissible gross vehicle weight when driving with a trailer.
Loading Luggage
Place the load on the trailer as far forward as possible and, if possible, close to the axle.
A low center of gravity of the trailer improves the safety of the entire vehicle combination.
Never exceed the permissible values for the total trailer weight and the permissible trailer load. Always use the lower value as a guide.
Tire Inflation Pressure
Pay special attention to the tire pressure of the vehicle and trailer. Values specified for a fully loaded vehicle are correct. After adjusting the tire pressure, reset the tire pressure monitor. For the trailer, the tire pressure values specified by its manufacturer are correct.
Flat Tire Monitor
After attaching or detaching the trailer, reset the tire pressure monitor.
Exterior rear-view mirrors
Regulations require two exterior rearview mirrors that allow the driver to observe both rear corners of the trailer.
Such mirrors are available from a BMW service center.
Power Consumers
When towing a camper trailer, consider the battery capacity, including electrical consumers, for a minimum period of time.
Always check the operation of the trailer tail lights before setting off.
Driving with inoperative tail lights violates regulations and endangers other road users.◄
