Notes
BMW CD players are Class 1 laser products. Do not operate the unit with a damaged cover. The laser beam can seriously damage your eyes.
Do not use discs with adhesive labels. Under the effect of heat, the labels may come off and damage the unit so that it cannot be repaired.
Use only round discs 12 cm in diameter. Do not insert discs with adapters, e.g. CD singles, as they may jam inside the unit.
Do not use combination CD/DVD discs, such as DVDPlus. They can jam permanently inside the unit.
Interference
High humidity inside the unit may cause the laser focusing lens to fog, and the CD will temporarily not be read.
If a disc does not play, check that it is inserted correctly and that it is not defective.
BMW audio players are designed specifically for use in the vehicle.
They may react more sensitively to damaged discs than conventional home players. Some causes of unsatisfactory disc playback are explained below.
Copy-protected CD/DVD
Manufacturers often provide discs with copy protection. Such discs may not play or may play with distortion.
Self-recorded CDs/DVDs
Unsatisfactory playback of a self-recorded CD may be caused by poor-quality blank media.
Only use a special marker to write on discs.
Damaged CD/DVDs
Protect discs from dust, humidity, scratches and fingerprints.
Store discs in their cases.
Protect discs from high temperatures (above 50 °C), high humidity and direct sunlight.
