Introduction
The navigation system reliably guides you to the desired destination without the need to study maps, even if the driver is completely unfamiliar with the area.
When dynamic guidance mode is used, the current traffic situation is taken into account when calculating the route.
For this purpose, the infotainment system receives road traffic messages for the reception area via RDS-TMC.
However, the navigation system cannot take into account traffic conditions, the latest traffic regulation changes, or unexpected hazards or obstacles (e.g., road work).
Dynamic navigation data over RDS is only possible when supported by the corresponding services broadcast in the FM band.
Use of the navigation system does not relieve the driver of responsibility for correct and careful operation of the vehicle. Always observe applicable traffic regulations.
If a route recommendation conflicts with traffic regulations, always follow the traffic regulations.
Notes on Navigation System Operation
The position and movement of the vehicle are detected by the navigation system using sensors. The distance traveled is determined using the vehicle speedometer signal, and the direction of travel when turning is determined using a gyro sensor (inertial compass).
Position determination is performed via the GPS (Global Positioning System) satellite system.
By comparing sensor signals with digital maps on the navigation CD, the position can be determined with an accuracy of approximately 10 m.
The system remains operational with a weak GPS signal; however, position accuracy is reduced, which may lead to incorrect position messages.
After entering a destination address or special destinations (nearest gas station, hotel, etc.), the route is calculated from the current position to the destination.
Route guidance is provided by voice prompts and an arrow, as well as by a multicolor map display or a combination of both images.
TMC Traffic Information System and Dynamic Route Guidance
The TMC traffic information system receives all current traffic information from TMC radio stations. When dynamic route guidance mode is switched on, this information is taken into account when calculating the entire route. The route is planned so as to bypass traffic disruptions according to the set criteria.
If a new traffic disruption appears while route guidance mode is on, a message asking whether the route should be changed is displayed, depending on the preset settings.
TMC traffic information is shown on the route guidance display as symbols or as detailed text messages in the TMC messages menu.
Using TMC traffic information requires reception of TMC-enabled radio stations in the region.
Dynamic route guidance mode only works when traffic information is received by the TMC traffic information system.
The dynamic route guidance function can be switched off.
Important Information About CD Maps
The complete map data is too large to be loaded into system memory.
For international navigation, insert the CD or load the appropriate regional data into system memory. The main road network of Europe is loaded
automatically. It may be necessary to delete other maps from the system memory.
After the preferred map has loaded successfully, the CD can be removed and the music CD player can be used.

Important Information on Using the Menus
The most important menu and navigation controls are the MENU knob, the eight-way switch, and the NAV, DEST, and BACK buttons.
Turn the MENU knob: select an item in the menu. The selected item is highlighted in a different color.
Change the map display scale.
All available options are highlighted in a different color. Unavailable options are skipped.
Press the MENU knob: confirm the highlighted selection, go to another menu, or activate a function.
Press the NAV button: Main navigation menu. All navigation functions are selected here.
Press the DEST button: Main destination input menu. All destination input options are selected here.
Press the BACK button: exit the menu page or return one menu level back.
Press the eight-way switch: move the map section. To select a destination, press in the desired direction to position the crosshair on one of the destinations on the map.
