Side airbags * and curtain airbags*

~3min read

The side airbags are integrated into the front seat backrests, on the door side.

These airbags deploy in the event of a severe side impact applied to impact zone B, acting perpendicular to the vehicle's longitudinal axis, in a horizontal plane and from outside to inside the vehicle. The side airbag is thus placed between the front occupant and the door panel, which helps reduce the risk of chest injury.

The curtain airbags are integrated into the roof lining.

The curtain airbag is placed between the front or rear occupant and the windows, which helps reduce the risk of head injury.

In the event of a minor impact or contact on the side of the vehicle, or in the event of a rollover, the airbag may not deploy. In the event of a rear or frontal collision, the airbag does not deploy.

Airbag malfunction

d’au moins un de ces airbags.Flashing indicates a malfunction of at least one of these airbags.

Contact a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop to have the system checked. The airbags may no longer deploy in the event of a severe impact.

! For the front, side and curtain airbags to be fully effective, observe the following safety rules:

Be seated in your seat with the seat belt correctly positioned. Adopt a normal, upright seating position. Do not allow anything to come between the occupants and the airbags (child, animal, object, etc.). This could impair airbag operation or injure the occupants. Any work on the airbag systems must be carried out exclusively by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.

After an accident or if the vehicle has been stolen, have the airbag systems checked.

Front airbags

Do not drive holding the steering wheel by its spokes or with your hands resting on the centre hub of the steering wheel.

Do not place your feet on the dashboard, passenger side.

Never dismantle, drill or subject the steering wheel to violent blows.

Side airbags

Only cover the seats with approved seat covers; these will not interfere with side airbag deployment. Consult a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.

Do not attach or stick anything to the seat backrests; this could cause chest or arm injuries when the side airbag inflates.

Do not lean your upper body closer to the door than necessary.

Curtain airbags

Do not attach or stick anything to the pillars or the roof; this could cause head injuries when the curtain airbag inflates.

Deployment of the airbag(s) is accompanied by a slight release of harmless smoke and a noise, caused by the activation of the pyrotechnic charge built into the system. This smoke is not toxic but may irritate sensitive individuals.

The noise of the detonation may cause a slight temporary reduction in hearing.

Even when all the precautions described are observed, there is still a risk of injury or minor burns to the head, chest or arm when an airbag deploys. The bag inflates almost instantly (approximately 30 milliseconds) and then deflates just as quickly, releasing hot gases through the vents provided for this purpose.

This system works only once. If a second impact occurs (in the same accident or in another one), the airbag will not deploy.
