Airbags
This system is designed to optimise the safety of the occupants (except the rear centre passenger) in the event of severe collisions. It complements the action of seat belts fitted with force limiters.
In this case, the electronic sensors record and analyse frontal and side impacts sustained in the impact detection zones:
- In a severe impact, the airbags deploy instantly and protect the vehicle occupants (except the rear centre passenger); immediately after the impact, the airbags deflate rapidly so as not to obstruct visibility or the occupants' possible exit,
- In a minor impact, a rear impact, or under certain rollover conditions, the airbags will not deploy; the seat belt alone provides optimum protection in these situations.

Airbags
Impact detection zones
- Frontal impact zone.
- Side impact zone.
In a severe frontal impact, this system protects the driver and front passenger, reducing the risk of head and chest injuries.
For the driver, it is built into the centre of the steering wheel; for the front passenger, it is in the dashboard above the glovebox.
Front airbags Activation
They deploy simultaneously, unless the front passenger airbag is deactivated, in a severe frontal impact applied to all or part of frontal impact zone A, along the vehicle's longitudinal axis in a horizontal plane and from front to rear of the vehicle.
The front airbag fits between the front occupant and the dashboard to cushion their forward movement.
Deactivation
Deactivation
Only the front passenger airbag can be deactivated:
- With the ignition off, insert the key into the passenger airbag deactivation switch 1 ,
- turn it to the "OFF" position,
- then, remove it while holding this position.
This warning light comes on in the display
of the roof console, with the ignition on and for the entire duration of the deactivation.
As soon as you remove the child seat, turn control 1 to the 'on' position to reactivate the airbag and ensure the safety of your front passenger in the event of an impact.
Operating fault
If this symbol, accompanied by an audible signal
and a message, appears on the instrument panel display, consult a CITROËN dealer to have the system checked. The airbags may no longer deploy in the event of a severe impact.
If this warning light flashes, consult
a CITROËN dealer.
System protecting the driver and front passenger in the event of a severe side impact, to reduce the risk of chest injury.
Each side airbag is integrated into the front seat backrest frame, on the door side.
Side airbags * Activation
It deploys on one side only in the event of a severe side impact on all or part of side impact zone B, acting perpendicular to the vehicle's longitudinal axis in a horizontal plane and from the outside towards the inside of the vehicle.
The side airbag is positioned between the front occupant and the corresponding door panel.

System protecting the driver and passengers (except the rear centre passenger) in the event of a severe side impact, to reduce the risk of head injury.
Each curtain airbag is integrated into the pillars and the upper part of the passenger compartment.
ActivationIt deploys simultaneously with the corresponding side airbag in the event of a severe side impact on all or part of side impact zone B, acting perpendicular to the vehicle's longitudinal axis in a horizontal plane and from the outside towards the inside of the vehicle.
The curtain airbag is positioned between the front or rear occupant and the windows.
In a minor side impact or collision, or in a rollover, the airbag may not deploy. In a rear or front collision, the airbag does not deploy. Malfunction
If this symbol, accompanied by an audible signal
and a message, appears on the instrument panel display, consult a CITROËN dealer to have the system checked. The airbags may no longer deploy in the event of a severe impact.
Sit in a normal, upright position.
Fasten your seat belt and position it correctly.
Do not let anything come between occupants and airbags (child, animal, object, etc.). This could hinder airbag operation or injure occupants.
After an accident or vehicle theft, have the airbag systems checked.
Any work on airbag systems is strictly prohibited, except by qualified CITROËN dealer personnel.
Even when all the precautions above are observed, there is a risk of injury or minor burns to the head, torso or arms when an airbag deploys. The bag inflates almost instantly (a few milliseconds), then deflates at the same time, releasing hot gases through the vents provided for this purpose.
Front airbagsDo not drive holding the steering wheel by its spokes or with your hands resting on the centre hub of the steering wheel.
Do not place your feet on the dashboard, passenger side.
Never dismantle, drill or subject the steering wheel to violent blows.
Side airbagsCover the seats only with approved seat covers.
These will not interfere with side airbag deployment. Consult a CITROËN dealer.
Do not attach or stick anything to the seat backs (clothing, etc.); this could cause chest or arm injuries when the side airbag deploys.
Do not lean your torso closer to the door than necessary.
Curtain airbagsDo not attach or stick anything to the roof lining; this could cause head injuries when the curtain airbag deploys.
Do not remove the grab handles on the roof; they help secure the curtain airbags.
