Front seat belts

The front seat belts are fitted with a pyrotechnic pretensioner and a load limiter.

This system improves safety for the front seats in frontal impacts.

Depending on the severity of the impact, the pyrotechnic pretensioner instantly tightens the belts and holds them against the occupants' bodies.

The pyrotechnic pretensioners are active when the ignition is switched on.

The load limiter reduces the pressure of the belt on the occupant's chest, improving their protection.

Fitting
  • Pull the belt webbing towards you in a smooth movement, making sure it is not twisted.
  • Lock the buckle into its housing.
  • Check that it is locked correctly and that the automatic locking device works by pulling the belt sharply.
  • Position the lap portion of the belt as low as possible across the hips and tighten it as much as possible.
  • Position the shoulder portion as far as possible into the hollow of the shoulder.

Each seat belt is fitted with a retractor that automatically adjusts the belt length to your build.

Height adjustment

The shoulder belt guide should be positioned at the middle of the shoulder.

  • To adjust the belt, pinch the adjuster and slide it in the desired direction.
Removal
  • To unlatch the belt, press the red button on the buckle.

The belt retracts automatically when it is not in use.

Rear seat belts

The rear seats are fitted with three seat belts, each with three anchor points and a retractor with force limiter.

Locking
  • Pull the webbing, then insert the tongue into the buckle.
  • Check the locking by pulling sharply on the webbing.
Unlocking
  • Press the red button on the buckle.

The driver must make sure that passengers use their seat belts correctly and that everyone is properly belted before driving.

Whatever your seat position in the vehicle, always wear your seat belt, even for short journeys.

Do not swap the buckles, as they would not fully perform their function.

Seat belts are fitted with a retractor that automatically adjusts the belt length to your build.

The belt retracts automatically when it is not in use.

Before and after use, make sure the belt is correctly wound onto the retractor.

The lower part of the belt must be positioned as low as possible across the hips.

The upper part must be positioned in the hollow of the shoulder.

The retractors are fitted with an automatic locking device that engages in a collision, emergency braking or if the vehicle overturns. You can release the device by pulling the belt firmly and then letting it retract slightly. To be effective, a seat belt must:
  • Must be kept tight against the body,
  • Must be pulled out in front of you with a steady motion, checking that it is not twisted,
  • Must restrain only one person,
  • Must show no signs of cutting or fraying,
  • Must not be altered or modified, so as not to impair its performance.

Due to current safety requirements, any work or inspection must be carried out by the Citroën network, which guarantees the work and ensures it is performed correctly.

Have your seat belts checked periodically by the Citroën network, especially if the webbing shows signs of damage.

Clean the seat belt webbing with soapy water or a textile cleaner sold by the Citroën network.

After folding or moving a rear seat or bench, make sure the belt is correctly positioned and retracted. Recommendations for children

Use a suitable child seat if the passenger is under 12 years old or less than 1.50 m tall.

Never use the same belt to restrain more than one person.

Never carry a child on your lap. In the event of an impact

Depending on the nature and severity of the impact, the pyrotechnic device may fire before and independently of the airbag deployment. Firing of the pretensioners is accompanied by a slight release of harmless smoke and a noise, caused by the activation of the pyrotechnic cartridge built into the system.

In all cases, the airbag warning light comes on.

After an impact, have the seat belt system checked and, if necessary, replaced by a Citroën dealer.
