Charging the battery
Note: the battery charging procedure is listed here for information only. Contact the Fiat service network to charge the battery.
It is recommended to charge at a low current for approx. 24 hours.
Charging for longer may damage the battery.
To charge the battery, proceed as follows:
- Disconnect the vehicle's cable from the negative battery terminal;
- Connect the charger cables to the battery terminals, observing the polarity;
- Switch on the charger;
- When charging is complete, switch off the charger first, then disconnect the cables from the battery;
- Reconnect the vehicle's cable to the negative battery terminal.
Note: if the vehicle is fitted with an alarm system, switch it off first using the remote control (see “Electronic alarm system” in the chapter “Instrument panel and controls”).
NoteThe liquid contained in the battery is toxic and corrosive. Avoid contact with skin or eyes. Charge the battery in a well-ventilated area, far from open flames and possible sources of sparks: risk of explosion and fire.
NoteNever try to charge a frozen battery: it must first be thawed, otherwise it could explode.
If the battery has frozen, have it checked by qualified personnel before charging to make sure the internal cells are not damaged and the battery case has no cracks, which could cause the toxic and corrosive acid to leak.
