Removal and Installation - Intermediate Shaft

Materials

Removal

1. 1
   Remove the right front halfshaft.

   Remove and discard the retaining ring and seal ring from the intermediate shaft.

   Remove and discard the intermediate shaft attaching bolts.

   

4. 4
   Install two 6 mm x 1.0 x 20 mm bolts into the flange threads.

   Evenly turn the bolts one turn at a time and remove the intermediate shaft.

   Remove and discard the intermediate shaft bearing O-ring.

   

Installation

   Lubricate the new intermediate shaft bearing seal before installation with the specified material.
   

   • Material: Motorcraft® MERCON® ULV Automatic Transmission Fluid (XT-12-QULV) (WSS-M2C949-A)

   Install the new intermediate shaft bearing seal.

   1. Install the intermediate shaft into the PTU so that the shaft flange is flush with the PTU housing.

   

4. 4
   Install new bolts.
   Torque: 18 lb-ft (25 N·m)

   Install a new retaining ring and seal ring onto the intermediate shaft.

   Install the RH front halfshaft.

   Check the transmission fluid level.
