Removal

1. 1
   Remove the rear axle shaft.
   Refer to: Rear Axle Shaft (205-05 Rear Axle Shafts, Removal and Installation).
2. 2
   Remove and replace the rear axle shaft seal.
   Use common equipment: flat-blade screwdriver

   

Installation

1. 1
   Inspect the differential housing surface for rust, nicks and scratches. Polish the differential housing surface with fine crocus cloth if necessary.

   

2. 2
   Using the special tool, install the new rear axle shaft seal.
   Use special service tool: 205-990 Installer, Axle Seal, 205-153 (T80T-4000-W) Handle.

   

3. 3
   Install the rear axle shaft.
   Refer to: Rear Axle Shaft (205-05 Rear Axle Shafts, Removal and Installation).
4. 4
   Check the RDU fluid level.
   Refer to: Differential Fluid Level Check (205-02 Rear Axle/Differential, General Procedures).
