Personal Safety System™
This system provides an enhanced overall level of protection in frontal collisions for front seat occupants and is designed to further reduce the risk of injury associated with airbags. The system analyzes various occupant conditions and crash severity before activating the appropriate safety devices, to help better protect occupants in different frontal crash situations.
Your vehicle's Personal Safety System consists of:
- Supplemental restraints with dual-stage driver and passenger airbags.
- Front seat belt retractors with pretensioners, energy management retractors, and seat belt usage sensors.
- Front passenger detection system.
- Passenger airbag on and off indicators.
- Front crash severity sensors.
- Restraints control module with impact and safety sensors.
- Safety system warning light and chime.
- Airbag wiring, impact sensors, seat belt pretensioners, front seat belt usage sensors, passenger detection system, and indicator lights.
How does the Personal Safety System work?
The Personal Safety System can adapt the deployment strategy of the safety devices depending on crash severity and occupant conditions. Crash and occupant sensors send information to the restraints control module. During a crash, the restraints control module may activate the seat belt pretensioners, one or both stages of the dual-stage airbags, depending on crash severity and occupant conditions.
