Engine Exhaust
- The vehicle is idling in areas with poor ventilation (parking lots, tunnels, deep snow that may block the underbody or tailpipe).
- The exhaust smells or sounds strange or different. The exhaust system leaks due to corrosion or damage.
- The vehicle exhaust system has been modified, damaged, or improperly repaired.
- There are holes or openings in the vehicle body from damage or aftermarket modifications that are not fully sealed.
If you notice unusual fumes or suspect exhaust is entering the vehicle:
- Drive only with the windows fully down.
- Have the vehicle repaired immediately.
Never park the vehicle with the engine running in an enclosed area, such as a garage or building without adequate fresh air ventilation.
Vehicle Operation While Parked
It is best not to park with the engine running.
If the vehicle is left with the engine running, take the appropriate steps to make sure the vehicle will not move. See "Shifting into Park" and Engine Exhaust.
If parking on a hill while towing a trailer, see Driving Characteristics and Towing Tips.
