Safety System Check. Seat Belt Care

~1min read

Safety System Check

Periodically check the seat belt reminder light, seat belts, buckles, latch plates, retractors, shoulder belt height adjusters (if equipped) and seat belt anchorages to make sure they all work properly. Look for any other loose or damaged seat parts of the seat belt system that could keep the seat belt system from performing properly. Contact your dealer to have it repaired. Torn, worn or twisted seat belts may not protect you in a crash. Torn or worn seat belts may tear apart under the force of a crash. If a belt is torn or worn, replace it immediately. If a belt is twisted, it may be possible to untwist it by turning the latch plate over on the belt. If the twist cannot be corrected, contact your dealer to have it fixed.

Make sure the seat belt reminder light works. See Seat Belt Reminders.

Keep seat belts clean and dry. See Seat Belt Care.

Seat Belt Care

Keep the belts clean and dry.

Seat belts must be properly cared for and maintained.

Seat belt hardware must be kept dry and free of dust and debris. As necessary, the exterior hard surfaces and webbing of the seat belts may be lightly cleaned with mild soap and water. Make sure there is no excessive dust or debris in the mechanism. If dust or debris is in the system, please see your dealer. Parts may need to be replaced to ensure proper function of the system.
