- Never shift the shift lever from P (Park) or N (Neutral) to any other position with the accelerator pedal depressed.
- Never shift the shift lever to P (Park) while the vehicle is moving.
- Make sure the vehicle has come to a complete stop before attempting to shift into R (Reverse) or D (Drive).
- Do not shift the shift lever to N (Neutral) while driving. Doing so may result in an accident because of loss of engine braking, and the transmission may be damaged.
- When driving uphill or downhill, always shift into D (Drive) for forward driving or R (Reverse) for reverse driving, and check the gear position shown on the instrument panel before driving. Driving in the opposite direction to the selected gear may cause a dangerous situation by stalling the engine and reducing braking effectiveness.
- Do not drive with your foot resting on the brake pedal. Even light but constant pressure on the pedal may cause the brakes to overheat, wear rapidly, and possibly fail.
- Do not hold the vehicle on a slope with the accelerator pedal. This may cause the transmission to overheat. Always use the brake pedal or the parking brake.
- Always apply the parking brake when leaving the vehicle. Do not rely on shifting the transmission into P (Park) to keep the vehicle from moving.
- Use extreme caution when driving on slippery surfaces. Be especially careful when braking, accelerating, or shifting. On a slippery surface, a sudden change in vehicle speed may cause the wheels to lose traction with the road, which may result in loss of vehicle control and an accident.
- Optimum vehicle performance and fuel economy are achieved by depressing and releasing the accelerator pedal smoothly.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH:
- ALWAYS wear your seat belt. In a collision, an unbelted passenger is significantly more likely to be seriously injured or killed than a properly belted passenger.
- Avoid high speeds when driving through curves or turns.
- Do not make quick steering movements, such as sudden lane changes or rapid, sharp turns.
- The risk of rollover greatly increases if you lose control of your vehicle at highway speeds.
- Loss of control often occurs when two or more wheels leave the paved surface and the driver turns to re-enter the road.
- If your vehicle leaves the paved surface, do not turn sharply. Instead, brake gently before steering back onto the road.
- HYUNDAI recommends obeying all posted speed limits.
