Engine Electrical System

Description and Operation

Description

Ignition timing is controlled by the electronic spark advance control system. Standard reference ignition timing data for engine operating conditions is preprogrammed in the ECM (Engine Control Module) memory. Engine operating conditions (speed, load, warm-up state, etc.) are detected by various sensors. Based on these sensor signals and the ignition timing data, the primary current interrupt signal is sent to the ECM. The ignition coil is energized and the timing is controlled.
