Installing the Child Restraint System (CRS)

~1min read

WARNING

Before installing your child restraint system, always:

  • Read and follow the instructions provided by the child restraint manufacturer.
  • Read and follow the instructions regarding child restraint systems in this manual.

Failure to observe all warnings and instructions may increase the risk of SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH in the event of a crash.

WARNING

If the vehicle head restraint interferes with proper child seat installation (as described in the child seat system manual), the head restraint of the corresponding seating position must be adjusted or completely removed.

After selecting a suitable child restraint for your child, make sure it fits properly in your vehicle. Follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer when installing the child seat. Observe these general steps when installing the seat in the vehicle:

  • Properly secure the child restraint to the vehicle. All child restraints must be secured in the vehicle using the lap portion of the lap/shoulder seat belt or the LATCH system.
  • Make sure the child restraint is securely installed. After installing the child restraint in the vehicle, push and pull the seat forward and from side to side to make sure it is securely held by the seat. A child restraint installed with the seat belt must be installed as tightly as possible. However, some side-to-side movement may be expected.
  • Secure the child in the child restraint. Make sure the child is properly secured in the child restraint according to the manufacturer's instructions.

WARNING

A child restraint in a closed vehicle may become very hot. To avoid burns, check the seat surface and buckles before placing your child in the child restraint.
