Driving Your Vehicle
Carbon monoxide (CO) is poisonous. Breathing carbon monoxide can cause loss of consciousness and death. Engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide, which cannot be seen or smelled.
Do not breathe engine exhaust gases. If at any time you smell exhaust fumes inside the vehicle, open the windows immediately. Exposure to CO can cause unconsciousness and death by asphyxiation.
Make sure the exhaust system does not leak. The exhaust system should be inspected whenever the vehicle is raised for oil changes or for any other purpose. If you hear a change in exhaust sound or if you drive over something that strikes the underside of the vehicle, have the exhaust system inspected as soon as possible at an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
Do not start the engine in an enclosed space. Leaving the engine running in a garage, even with the garage door open, is a dangerous practice. Start the engine only long enough to start it and drive the vehicle out of the garage.
Avoid prolonged idling of the engine if people are in the vehicle. If prolonged engine idling is necessary with people in the vehicle, be sure to do so only in an open area with the air intake set to "Fresh" and the fan control set to high speed so that fresh air flows into the vehicle.
Keep the air intakes clean. To ensure proper operation of the ventilation system, keep the ventilation air intakes located in front of the windshield free of snow, ice, leaves and other obstructions.
If you must drive with the trunk open: Close all windows. Open the instrument panel vents. Set the air flow control to "Fresh", set the airflow control to "Floor" or "Face", and set the fan control to high speed.
