Description

Seat belt pretensioners (BPT) are installed inside the center pillars (left and right). In a collision of the vehicle with a certain degree of frontal impact, the seat belt pretensioner helps reduce the severity of injuries to front seat occupants by retracting the seat belt webbing. (The seat belt pretensioner may also be activated in a side collision if the vehicle has side airbags or curtain airbags.) This prevents them from being thrown forward and striking the steering wheel or instrument panel during a collision.
