Inspection

Check whether the automatic light control operates as shown in the timing chart below. The tail lamp output and headlamp (low beam) output are controlled based on the light sensor input (light intensity) when the auto light switch on the multifunction switch is ON and the vehicle is in the IGN1 or IGN2 ON mode. If IGN1 is ON, the BCM checks this voltage, and if it exceeds the rated voltage, an automatic light malfunction occurs. (below 4 V or above 6 V)In the IGN1 ON state, when the multifunction switch module detects auto light ON, the tail lamp relay output and headlamp low beam relay output are controlled according to the input signal from the auto light sensor. Automatic light control does not operate if the sunlight sensor power supply (regulated 5 V power from the sunlight sensor IGN1 power) is shorted to ground. If IGN1 is ON, the BCM monitors the range of this power supply and outputs a malfunction message as soon as the supply voltage goes outside the permissible limits. The headlamps are then kept on regardless of the sunlight level detected by the sensor while the malfunction is present. This is designed to prevent the headlamps from turning off when the malfunction occurs at night.

Removal

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
  2. Remove the automatic light sensor (A) from the upper side of the airbag using a flat-tip (-) screwdriver.
  3. Disconnect the auto light sensor connector.

Installation

  1. Connect the auto light sensor connector.
  2. Install the auto light sensor.
