Description

The MDPS (Motor Driven Power Steering) system uses an electric motor to assist steering effort, and is a steering system that operates independently of engine operation. The MDPS control module controls the motor according to information received from each sensor and the CAN (Controller Area Network), providing more precise and timely steering assist than conventional engine-driven hydraulic systems. The MDPS components (steering angle sensor, torque sensor, fail-safe relay, etc.) are located inside the steering column. Do not disassemble the MDPS unit, steering column, or MDPS motor. If a problem is found, replace them.
