Description

The seat belt pretensioners (BPT) are installed inside the center pillars (left and right). In a frontal collision of a certain severity, the seat belt pretensioner helps reduce the severity of injuries to front occupants by retracting the seat belt webbing. This prevents front occupants from moving forward and striking the steering wheel or instrument panel when the vehicle crashes. (The seat belt pretensioner may also deploy in a side collision if the vehicle is equipped with side airbags or curtain airbags.)
