Engine Electrical System

Description and Operation

~1min read

Description

Ignition timing is controlled by an electronic ignition timing control system. Standard reference ignition timing data for operating conditions are stored in the ECM (engine control module) memory. Engine operating conditions (speed, load, warm-up state, etc.) are detected by various sensors. Based on the signals from these sensors and the ignition timing data, a primary current interrupt signal is sent to the ECM. The ignition coil is activated and the timing is controlled.
