Steering System

Description and Operation

~1min read

Description

The MDPS (Motor Driven Power Steering) system uses an electric motor to assist steering effort, operating without consuming engine power. The MDPS control module controls motor operation based on information received from each sensor and the CAN (Controller Area Network), resulting in more precise steering control than hydraulic systems driven by the engine. The MDPS components (steering angle sensor, torque sensor, relay protection) are located inside the steering column. The MDPS unit, steering column, and MDPS unit must not be disassembled or inspected. If necessary, replace them.
