GENERAL INSPECTION

Diagnostic Note

Failure rate Inspection item Symptom EXPLANATION Noticed
Drop, Impact and Overload Engine
  • Abnormal Noise
  • Visible or invisible damage may be present. The steering wheel may spring to one side with fragments falling out.
  • Some engine/control unit parts are sensitive to vibration and impact.
  • Overloading may cause unexpected damage.
  • Do not use a damaged EPS.
  • Do not overload the parts.
ECU
  • Damaged circuit
  • Poor solder joint
  • Printed circuit board broken
  • Damaged parts
TORQUE SENSOR
  • Insufficient steering effort
  • Overloading the input shaft may cause a torque sensor malfunction.
  • Do not strike the connecting parts (when inserting and torquing).
  • Use the special tool to remove the power steering. (Do not press on it.)
  • Do not use a damaged EPS.
WOOD
  • Insufficient steering effort (imbalance between left and right movement)
  • Do not use a damaged EPS.
pull / push Beam
  • Failure - electrical operation not possible
  • EPS malfunction
  • Disconnection between the harness connector and the beam
  • Do not overload the beam
Abnormal storage temperature Engine / ECU
  • Abnormal steering effort due to engine/ECU malfunction
  • Wire in normal condition
  • Even slight mold may cause some engine / ECU parts to malfunction
  • Maintain normal temperature and proper humidity during storage. Avoid immersion in water.

  1. Do not strike electronic parts; if dropped or struck, replace them.
  2. Avoid heat and mold on electronic parts.
  3. Do not touch the connection terminal to avoid deformation and static electric shock.
  4. Do not strike the engine and torque sensor parts; if dropped or struck, replace them.
  5. Connectors must be disconnected or connected with the ignition in the ALL OFF position.

MDPS System Inspection and Diagnosis

Before or after servicing the EPS system, perform the troubleshooting procedure and check as follows. Compare the system condition with the normal condition in the table below, and if an abnormal symptom is found, apply the necessary tool and perform the inspection.
TEST CONDITIONS Symptoms Passenger
Duration
Warning Light Cause Inspection Item
IGN OFF / Engine OFF / Stationary Steering malfunction - - - Normal
Power steering assist operation 120 seconds Indicator is illuminated. Full power is applied even when ALL is off. Steering angle direction is not initialized.
  1. Check the entire power supply line.
  2. Use a scan tool to initialize the steering wheel angle.
