REPLACEMENT

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery, then wait for at least 30 seconds.
  2. Remove the lower airbag panel. (Refer to Body - "Lower Instrument Panel")
  3. Remove the attached clip from the bracket.
  4. Disconnect the MDPS connector (A).
  5. Remove the MDPS control unit after loosening the bolts.

    Tightening Torque: 14.7 – 22 N·m

  6. Remove the MDPS bracket.

    Tightening torque: 9.8–11.7 N·m

  7. To install, perform the removal procedure in reverse order.
  8. Perform "ASP Calibration" and "EPS Type Recognition" using GDS. (Refer to MDPS System - "Diagnosis by GDS").
  9. Erase the trouble code.
  10. Turn the ALL switch off and wait 20 seconds or more. Then check operation after starting the engine.

Diagnosis with GDS

ASP Calibration

  • The steering wheel angle sensor detects the steering wheel angle and its angular speed. The steering wheel angle and its speed are used for steering wheel damping and return in addition to the assist torque.
ASP Calibration Procedure
  1. Connect the self-diagnosis connector (16-pin), located at the bottom of the driver's side crash pad, to the self-diagnosis tool.
  2. Activate the self-diagnosis tool after turning the ignition on with the key button.
  3. Turn the steering wheel in a straight line.
  4. After selecting "Vehicle Model" and "System", select "ASP Calibration" on the GDS vehicle selection screen.

EPS Type Recognition

EPS Type Recognition Procedure
  1. Connect the self-diagnosis connector (16-pin), located at the bottom of the driver's side crash pad, to the self-diagnosis tool.
  2. Activate the self-diagnosis tool after turning the ignition on with the key button.
  3. Turn the steering wheel in a straight line.
  4. After selecting "Vehicle Model" and "System", select "EPS Type Recognition" on the GDS vehicle selection screen.
  5. Erase the trouble code.
  6. Turn the ALL switch off and wait at least 10 seconds before starting the engine. Then check that the MDPS operates correctly.
