Emergency Situations

Hazard Warning Flasher

~2min read

The hazard warning flasher warns other drivers to exercise extreme caution when approaching, passing, or overtaking your vehicle.

It should be used in case of emergency repairs or when the vehicle has stopped at the edge of the roadway.

To turn on the hazard warning flasher, press the hazard warning button located on the instrument panel. To turn it off, press the button again.

Note that the ignition or engine does not need to be on to activate the hazard warning flasher. The hazard button is located on the center instrument panel. All turn signal indicators will flash simultaneously.

  • The hazard warning flasher operates regardless of whether the vehicle is running or not.
  • The turn signals do not operate when the hazard warning flasher is on.

If the Engine Stalls While Driving

  • Gradually reduce speed while keeping the vehicle in a straight line. Carefully move off the road to a safe location.
  • Turn on the hazard warning flashers.
  • Try restarting the engine. If the vehicle does not start, contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer or seek other qualified assistance.

If the Engine Stalls at a Crossing

If the engine stalls at a crossing or intersection, if it is safe to do so, shift the transmission to N (Neutral), and then push the vehicle to a safe place.

If a Tire Goes Flat While Driving

If a tire goes flat while driving:

  • Release the accelerator pedal and allow the vehicle to slow down while keeping it in a straight line. Do not brake suddenly or attempt to leave the road, as this may cause loss of vehicle control and an accident. When the vehicle has slowed to a safe speed, brake gently and steer off the road. Move as far off the road as possible and park on a firm, level surface. If you are on a divided highway, do not park in the median area between the two traffic lanes.
  • When the vehicle has stopped, press the hazard warning button, shift the gear to P (Park), apply the parking brake, and press the Engine Start/Stop button to the OFF position or place the ignition switch in the LOCK/OFF position.
  • Ask all passengers to exit the vehicle. Make sure they all exit on the side of the vehicle away from traffic.
  • When replacing the flat tire, follow the instructions provided later in this chapter.
