Introduction

Use of Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (MTBE)

~1min read

HYUNDAI does not recommend using fuel in this vehicle in which the volume fraction of methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) exceeds 15.0 % (oxygen mass fraction 2.7 %).

Use of fuel with a methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) volume fraction exceeding 15.0 % (oxygen mass fraction 2.7 %) may result in degraded vehicle performance, vapor lock and hard starting.

Do Not Use Methyl Alcohol

Do not use fuel containing methanol (wood alcohol) to refuel this vehicle. Use of such fuel may result in degraded vehicle performance and damage to fuel system components.

Fuel Additives

HYUNDAI recommends using high-quality gasoline that meets the requirements of the European fuel standard (EN228) or equivalent standards.

If high-quality gasoline is not available, engine starting is difficult or the engine runs unevenly, use a fuel additive regularly. Add one bottle of additive to the fuel tank every 5,000 km (3,000 miles) of driving. Additives are available from an authorized HYUNDAI dealer, who can also provide instructions for their use. Do not mix additives of different brands.

Driving Abroad

When driving your vehicle to another country, make sure to:

• Comply with all registration and insurance requirements.
• Confirm that fuel of the required quality is available.
