Jump Starting
This starting method can be dangerous if performed incorrectly. To avoid injury to yourself, the vehicle and the battery when jump starting, follow the procedure described below. If you have any doubts, we strongly recommend having these operations performed by an experienced technician or a towing service.
WARNING
- Battery
• Keep open flames and sparks away from the battery. It releases hydrogen gas, which may explode in their presence.
To avoid serious injury and damage to the vehicle, follow these instructions exactly! If you are not sure how to perform this operation correctly, seek qualified assistance. Automotive batteries contain sulfuric acid.
It is poisonous and corrosive. When jump starting the engine, wear protective goggles and make sure acid does not contact your skin, clothing or the vehicle.
• Do not attempt to jump start the engine if the battery is frozen or the electrolyte level is low; the battery may rupture or explode.
Jump Starting Procedure
1. Make sure the external battery voltage is 12 V and its negative terminal is connected to the vehicle body ground.
2. If the external battery is in another vehicle, do not allow the vehicles to touch each other.
3. Turn off all electrical loads that are not needed at this time.
4. Connect the jumper cables for starting the engine from an external power source, strictly following the sequence shown in the illustration.
First, connect one end of the jumper cable to the positive terminal of the external power jump-start post (1), then connect the other end of the cable to the positive terminal of the external battery (2).
Then, connect one end of the other jumper cable to the negative terminal of the discharged battery's connection point (3), and the other end of the cable to the negative terminal of the jump-start connector (4).
Do not connect the cables to components that may move after the crankshaft starts rotating, or near such parts.
Do not touch the ends of the jumper cables to anything other than the appropriate battery terminals and the ground connection points. When connecting the cables, do not lean over the battery.
5. Start the engine of the vehicle whose battery is used as the external power source and set the engine speed to 2,000 rpm, then start the engine of the vehicle with the discharged battery.
If the cause of the battery discharge is unclear, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
