Curtain Airbags

~1min read

Side curtain airbags are located on both sides of the roof side rails above the front and rear doors.

They are designed to protect the heads of front and rear side outboard passengers in certain side impacts.

The curtain airbags are designed to deploy only in certain side impacts, depending on the severity, angle, speed, and point of impact of the collision.

The curtain airbags deploy not only on the impact side but also on the opposite side.

For vehicles equipped with a rollover sensor, the side airbags and curtain airbags on both sides of the vehicle may deploy when a rollover or possible rollover is detected.

Side curtain airbags are not designed to deploy in all side impacts or rollover situations.

WARNING

To reduce the risk of serious injury or death from an inflating airbag, observe the following precautions:

  • All occupants seated in seats must always wear seat belts properly to reduce the risk of injury from an airbag.
  • Install child restraints properly and as far away from the door as possible.
  • Do not allow passengers to lean their head or body against the doors, place their hands on the doors, extend their arms out of the window, or place objects between the doors and seats.
  • Do not open or repair the side curtain airbags.
