Fuel Filler Door
Opening the Fuel Filler Door

The fuel filler door must be opened from inside the vehicle by pulling the fuel filler door release lever.
1. Turn off the engine.
2. Pull up the fuel filler door release lever located on the floor on the left side of the driver's seat.
✽ NOTICE
If the fuel filler door cannot be opened due to ice forming around it, lightly tap or push on the door to break the ice and free the door. If necessary, spray an approved de-icing fluid around the door (do not use engine coolant antifreeze) or move the vehicle to a warm place and allow the ice to melt.

3. Pull the fuel filler door (1) fully open.
4. To remove the fuel filler cap (2), turn it counterclockwise. You may hear a hissing sound as the pressure inside the tank equalizes.
5. Place the cap on the fuel filler door.
Closing the Fuel Filler Door
1. To install the fuel filler cap, turn it clockwise until it clicks.
2. Close the fuel filler door until it clicks into place.
If the malfunction indicator (
) illuminates, turn off the engine and check or retighten the fuel filler cap until it clicks once. If the malfunction indicator (
) does not turn off, have the vehicle checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
WARNING
Gasoline is highly flammable and explosive. Failure to follow these instructions may result in SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH:
- Read and follow all warnings posted at the filling station.
- Before refueling, note the location of the emergency fuel shut-off switch, if equipped at the station.
- Before touching the fuel nozzle, discharge any potential static electricity by touching a metal part of the vehicle with your bare hand, at a safe distance away from the fuel filler neck, nozzle, or other source of gasoline vapor.
- Do not use mobile phones while refueling. Electrical current and/or electronic interference from cell phones may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire.
- Do not re-enter the vehicle after refueling has started. You may build up static electricity by touching, rubbing, or sliding against any object or fabric capable of generating static electricity. A static electricity discharge may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire. If you need to re-enter the vehicle, again discharge potentially dangerous static electricity by touching a metal part of the vehicle, away from the fuel filler neck, nozzle, or other source of gasoline, with your bare hand.
- When using an approved portable fuel container, always place the container on the ground before refueling. A static electricity discharge from the container may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire. Once refueling has started, maintain bare-hand contact with the vehicle until refueling is complete.
- Use only approved portable plastic fuel containers designed for transporting and storing gasoline. • When refueling, always place the shift lever in P (Park), apply the parking brake, and turn the ignition key to the LOCK/OFF position. Sparks generated by electrical components of the engine may ignite fuel vapor and cause a fire.
- Do not use matches or a lighter, do not smoke, and do not leave a lit cigarette in your vehicle at a filling station, especially while refueling.
- Do not overfill or top off the fuel tank, as this may cause a spill.
- If a fire occurs during refueling, leave the vehicle immediately, contact the station attendant at once, and then contact the local fire department. Follow all safety instructions they provide.
- If fuel under pressure sprays out, it may cover your clothing or skin, creating a risk of fire and burns. Always remove the fuel filler cap carefully and slowly. If fuel is spraying out or you hear a hissing sound, wait until the sound stops before fully removing the cap.
- Always check that the fuel filler cap is installed securely to prevent fuel spillage in the event of an accident.
✽ NOTICE
- Always refuel your vehicle in accordance with the fuel requirements recommended in the Introduction chapter.
- Do not spill fuel on the exterior surfaces of the vehicle. Any type of fuel spilled on painted surfaces may damage the paint.
CAUTION
If a fuel filler cap replacement is required, use only the genuine HYUNDAI cap or an equivalent specified for your vehicle. An incorrect fuel filler cap may cause a serious malfunction of the fuel system or emissions control system.
