Brake Assist System (BAS)

~1min read

BAS is designed to optimize braking performance during emergency braking maneuvers. The system detects an emergency braking situation by determining the speed and force of brake pedal application, and then applies optimal brake pressure. This can help reduce stopping distance. BAS supplements the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS). Applying the brakes very quickly results in the best assistance from BAS. To obtain the benefits of the system, you must apply constant brake pressure during a stopping sequence (do not "pump" the brakes). Do not reduce brake pedal pressure unless you no longer want to brake. Once the brake pedal is released, the BAS is deactivated.
