SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE

Protection Against Environmental Agents

~1min read

Body care requirements vary depending on geographic location and use. Chemicals that make roads passable in snow and ice, and those sprayed on trees and road surfaces in other seasons, cause severe corrosion of metal on your vehicle. Outdoor parking that exposes your vehicle to air pollution, the road surface on which the vehicle operates, extremely hot or cold weather, and other extreme conditions will have an adverse effect on paint, metal finishes, and underbody protection.

The following maintenance recommendations will help you get the maximum benefit from the corrosion resistance built into your vehicle.

What Causes Corrosion?

Corrosion results from wear or removal of paint and protective coatings on your vehicle.

The most common causes are:

  • Road Salt, Dirt, and Moisture Buildup
  • Stone and Gravel Impact
  • Insects, Tree Sap, and Resin
  • Airborne Salt Near Coastal Areas
  • Precipitation/Industrial Pollutants
