Safety Checks You Should Perform Inside the Vehicle
Seat Belts
Periodically inspect the seat belt system for cuts, frayed webbing, and loose parts. Replace damaged parts immediately. Do not disassemble or modify the system.
Front seat belts must be replaced after a collision. Rear seat belts must be replaced after a collision if they have been damaged (for example, a bent retractor, torn webbing, etc.). If there are any questions regarding a seat belt or pretensioner, replace the seat belt.
Airbag Warning Light
Airbag Warning Light
The light will illuminate for four to eight seconds as a bulb check when the ignition switch is first turned to the ON/RUN position. If the light does not illuminate during starting, remains on continuously, or illuminates while driving, have the system checked by an authorized dealer as soon as possible. This warning light will flash or illuminate with a single chime if a fault in the airbag system is detected. It will remain on until the fault is corrected. If the light flashes intermittently or illuminates while driving, have the vehicle serviced by an authorized dealer immediately.
Defroster
Check operation by selecting the defrost mode and setting the fan speed to high. You should be able to feel air directed against the windshield. Contact an authorized dealer for service if your defroster does not operate.
Floor Mat Safety Information
Always use floor mats designed for your vehicle. Use only a floor mat that does not interfere with the operation of the pedal assembly. Use only a floor mat that is securely attached using the floor mat retainers so it cannot slide out of position and interfere with the pedal assemblies or otherwise compromise safe operation of your vehicle.
- ALWAYS securely attach
your floor mat using the floor mat retainers. DO NOT install the floor mat upside down or turn over your floor mat. Pull gently to confirm the mat is attached to the floor mat retainers on a regular basis. - ALWAYS REMOVE THE EXISTING FLOOR MAT FROM THE VEHICLE
before installing any other floor mat. NEVER install or place an additional floor mat on top of an existing floor mat. - Install ONLY floor mats designed for your vehicle. NEVER install a floor mat that cannot be properly attached and secured to the vehicle. If a floor mat must be replaced, use only an FCA-approved floor mat for the specific make, model, and model year of your vehicle.
- Use ONLY a driver's side floor mat on the driver's side floor area. To check for interference, with the vehicle properly parked and the engine off, fully depress the accelerator pedal, brake pedal, and clutch pedal (if equipped) to check for interference. If your floor mat interferes with any pedal or is not secured to the floor, remove the floor mat from the vehicle and place it in the cargo area.
- Use a passenger's side floor mat ONLY on the passenger's side floor area.
- ALWAYS keep objects from falling or sliding into the driver's side floor area while the vehicle is moving. Objects may become trapped under the accelerator pedal, brake pedal, or clutch pedal and may cause loss of vehicle control.
- NEVER place any objects under the floor mat (such as towels, keys, etc.). These objects may shift the floor mat position and may cause interference with the accelerator pedal, brake pedal, or clutch pedal.
- If the vehicle floor mat is removed and reinstalled, always properly attach the mat to the floor and check that the floor mat retainers are securely attached to the vehicle carpet. Fully depress each pedal to check for interference with the accelerator, brake, or clutch pedal, then reinstall the floor mats.
- Use only mild soap and water to clean floor mats. After cleaning, always check that the mat is properly installed and secured to your vehicle using the floor mat retainers by gently pulling the mat.
